Shirt Heads: Teenage Wasteland
Have you ever wished there were t-shirts with meaning behind them, sans the teen angst, with photos sourced from obscure Danish amateur photography books form the 1950s? If so, then Tourne de Transmission might be for you.

Unless you have no internet connection and haven't spoken to anyone for a year or are stoically, irreversibly east coast, you'll have noticed that the vaguely new wave of blunt-smoking, skateboarding rappers from the west coast are pretty much dominating the hip-hop scene at the moment, and FreedMinds, or FMFU—an acronym for FreedMinds Fuck U—as they sometimes refer to themselves, are right at the center of it all. Kumasi Sadiki is the man behind the Oakland-based label that's dressing Odd Future, Casey Veggies, Stalley, and Main Attrakionz, et al, and he kindly dragged himself away from his high, high-grade to chat to me about weed, t-shirts, and Cali-living.

Cheap Monday jeans, Air Jordan shoes, vintage belt; ZARA jeans, vintage bracelet
CVLT Nation say they're trying to bring people who are usually on the fringes of society and in their own little sects together to appreciate what each other are creating. CVLT nation, who are actually celebrating their one-year anniversary this week, is two things—a clothing brand and a webzine, set up by former Rockers NYC main man, Sean Reveron and partner Meghan MacRae. Sean and Meghan run the clothing side of CVLT Nation, mostly by having a selection of artists they're into design tees for them, and CVLT Nation the webzine is the pair and a worldwide network of contributors writing about underground punk and metal, and a bit of fashion.

French brand Sixpack specialize in making people think with their t-shirts, as each collection revolves around a common theme which is then interpreted by a range of proper, exhibited artists spanning disciplines like graphics, painting, fine art, and comic books. Sometimes their t-shirts provoke Muslims to try burning down their office, other times they make you feel calm and contemplative, but every t-shirt is one you'd happily wear because founder and art director Lionel Vivier has 14 years of experience in what makes a t-shirt amazing. I had a chat with him about the Sixpack archive becoming a museum of life and why putting illustrated gay porn on t-shirts probably isn't the best idea.

The t-shirt collection by 'Sup Magazine and Danish masters of laid-back streetwear Wood Wood is a perfect example of a collaboration done properly. I spoke to Marisa Brickman, editor at 'Sup, and Brian Jensen, one of the two head designers at Wood Wood, about their .

What do you do when you want a shirt featuring your favorite musician but it either doesn't exist or a vintage one—if such a thing exits—costs more than Greece's national debt? Well, you do what Ranks did and set up a label making the shirts you've been lusting after all these years. We spoke to the brains behind Ranks, illustrator Daniel David Freeman, to see what other new concepts they'll be introducing to the realm of t-shaped shirts.

Considering that their whole aesthetic is based on the seemingly random collages thousands of us devote our days to on tumblr, it's odd that Untitled have the least Google-able name, like, ever. Tiago Rodrigues and Rita Cabral e Silva are likely to not give a single fuck about that, though, because the Portuguese couple started the label by accident as part of RAP/ RAP/ RAP, an art music project comprising of spooky songs that are terrifying in that ambient horror movie way, so optimizing their search engine results probably wasn't at the top of their agenda.

A t-shirt label by doof-addicted rappers based in Australia's premier resort for hippies and schoolies—the Australian name for the vacation kids take when they finish school for the final time—probably sounds awful, but for some reason, these t-shirts from Pete Versus Toby are actually pretty fresh.

I've lost count of the times that I've seen something that would look amazing on a t-shirt and psyched myself up into a state of near frenzy about how I'm going to buy a load of screen-printing equipment, fuck the big brands, and just go it alone on a one-man mission towards the perfect tee. Unfortunately, I'm lazy and forgetful, so those plans always fizzle out roughly 15 minutes after the initial delusion. Maria Falbo is either far more organized or far more reckless than me, and started Copson St., her t-shirt company, on a whim after seeing some funny photos of near-naked beefcake models in a German calendar.

Canadian-born Victoria Sin, the girl in the shoot, came to London to study fashion three years ago, but it didn't really work out. However, it's sneakily seeped its way back into her life in the form of Victory, the weirdly porn and wildlife-inspired t-shirt label she started. Other than designing all of Victory's t-shirts herself, Victoria works as a freelance illustrator of dog portraits for canine obsessives. That's cool, though, because she says people love their dogs, they're easy to draw, and it pays well. By the way, Victoria Sin is her real name. A friend told her she shared it with quite a well known German pornographic actress, but she decided to just own it.
