Shirt Heads: Vice Style

For the Vice Style launch party we thought it would be nice if we gave the people who came some T-shirts with our name on them. We didn’t want them to suck, so we got fashion designer and currency trading hobbyist David Lindwall to do one, and Federico Capalbo, one half of Komakino, to do the other. These guys are heroes, not just because their designs rule, but also because life sucks and they had to design the T-shirts for free, but still came through. Thanks guys.
DAVID LINDWALL

VICE: What was your idea behind our T-shirt?
David Lindwall: It was about how we're slowly being grouped into a world mass, with one controlling authority - The One World Government. Controlling ALL and setting the rules, laws, social standards, and quality of life. Different cultures fade and die, whole countries interlink, currency is being shared and merged; merged into one manageable mass.
That's pretty heavy going for a t-shirt. Where did you get the imagery from?
It was a painting I have been working on, heavily influenced by the United States of America seal, that I've yet to finish.
What was the connection to VICE?
I know VICE has a lot of readers that are open to new things. I just thought this was a print that people will wear and maybe make someone think for a moment or two.
Yep, tell me about it. So I'm emailing you in the jungle, and you mentioned you're house-sitting. How did you end up house-sitting in the jungle?
Yes, I am currently in the jungle on a tiny island. This friend of ours needed someone to look after their house, swim in their pool, drive their 4x4, and keep all the lizards company.
FEDERICO CAPALBO

VICE: What was behind the T-shirt design?
Federico Capalbo: The imagery is from our archive. It references the medieval representation of the passion of Christ, but removed from any religious context.
What made you want to do design a T-shirt for VICE?
The guys there have been very supportive of Komakino. It’s important for us to work with people that are passionate about what they do too.
I wanted to get hold of one of the t-shirts and you mentioned you hadn't seen a finished one, where have they all gone?
Hopefully into the right hands. In reality, probably eBay…
Next fashion week you’ll be exhibiting over in New York, at the Envoy gallery. What are you showing over there?
We’re presenting our SS11 collection, and using the place to show videos and installations. We were actually approached by the gallery about doing an exhibition ages ago. Now we’re ready to present our world as well as our clothes. We’re working with Dennis Schoenberg on a film.
