Writing about fashion blogs is lame. Lookbook.nu isn't an ordinary fashion blog though, in fact, I'm not sure what it is. I mean, what do you call something that goes by the tagline "collective fashion consciousness," that isn't quite a social network, and isn't centrally directed like a zine?

Things on lookbook go a stage further than de-tagging pictures so people only see you in your best light. Members post self-styled single shots, conceived with quasi-professional levels of care and attention, and give their efforts poetic and emo titles like Need Faith To Make Me Numb, My Name Is Xavier But It Doesn't Really Matter, and Loser.

The average age of members must be 19 or 20 years old, and there are enough Asian's, Eastern European's and Latin American's posting to give a properly global overview of what's going on. A scoring system creates daily, weekly and all-time top tens, and tagging allows users to credit the images and link to other shots of similar clothes. Some boring asshole has probably written that it represents the democratizing of the fashion industry, which is true only if me singing democratizes pop music, but it is sort of addictive and probably makes corporate trend predictors bust a nut.
