HOT YOUNG NEW DESIGNERS: Felipe Caprestano

Felipe Caprestano is a 27-year-old self-taught fashion designer based in Jaraguá do Sul, a small town in the south of Brazil, who made a name for himself by live streaming parts of the design process of his headgear line, Face Couture. He has, he says, based designs on gay aliens with cone heads, his childhood curtains, opera singing clowns, and Ian Curtis’ epileptic dance routine.

Vice: Hey, Felipe. How come you never studied fashion design?
Felipe Caprestano:
I was too cool for school.

Must be scary sharing your ideas online, aren’t you worried your ideas will be stolen before you’ve even managed to produce your own design.
It's a love and hate situation. It’s actually worse when you’ve planned an idea in secret and you suddenly see it somewhere else. By recording my ideas online I get to fuck democratization of information and fuck collective thinking. In a weird way it’s copyright.

I’ve seen a few posts where you say you’ve failed or didn’t like the result, but posted the final piece anyway.
Yeah, that definitely happens.

So what don’t you like about doing everything online?
That the whole online world and explosion in computer software has made everything easy for those who don't have any skills.

And what do you like the most?
