LFW: MATTIJS
Who: Dutch designer Mattijs van Bergen’s collection was inspired by old sci-fi movies and “powerful amazons like Princess Leia”. I’m not sure how that translated into a giant ruffled tangerine on skinny tangerine legs, but maybe I just don’t watch enough TV.
What: Silks, boiled wool, and high-tech polyester in navy and metallics were a pretty clear nod to the space theme. When he wasn’t playing it too safe with over structured skirt suits and whatever, it felt kind of costumey, in a really good way. The final dress was a navy shirt tucked into a floor length tutu covered in gold stars and was by far the best look in the collection. Oh, and not to dwell or anything, but the tangerine look featured a hefty camel-toe.
How: Setting it to a remix of the Star Wars theme dubbed over by a Lana del Wannabe was the highlight of my morning. I’m pretty sure they also had pre-recorded cheering and clapping on the track at the end of the show, which is completely fucking genius.
Vibe: Camel toes are in.
