G-STAR RAW'S GUIDE TO NEW YORK NIGHT LIFE
The third G-Star and VICE film, Hidden New York, is a short documentary hosted by journalist Kim Taylor-Bennett and follows her on her mission to meet the sort of New York fashion industry people for whom fashion is as much about dancefloors as it is catwalks.

The New York insiders include top door girl Lyz Olko, VICE Fashion Editor Annette Lamothe Ramos, director John McSwain, journalist Karley Sciortino and DJ Becka Diamond. These people live and breathe New York and inspire trends almost as often as they document them.

Lyz Olko has been working the door of New York’s most talked about parties for over a decade. Kim meets Lyz at Hotel Delmano where Lyz recommends The Jane Hotel along with bars and restaurants like Bacaro and Little Frankie’s for Kim to visit.

Next we meet Vice Fashion Editor, Annette Lamothe Ramos—together with cult photographer John McSwain—runs cult night All Babes Everything, at New York’s famous Jane Hotel. Kim meets them for Brunch at Williamsburg’s Café Colette and they share their party tips with Kim, including the Rusty Knot Party Bus.

Controversial blogger, Karley Sciortino recently published her first book, and writes for Dazed & Confused, Vice, Interview and ‘Sup Magazine. Karley takes Kim to the launch party of the latest issue of ‘Sup and recommends she stops by night club, Home Sweet Home, for her mate Lauren Dillard’s night, “Filth”;

Finally, Kim meets Nylon journalist and DJ Becka Diamond. They go to a secret location on the Bowery, on the Lower East Side and Becka recommends Kim visit Don Hill’s, LIT lounge. The film ends with Kim visiting her own favourite hangout, basement bar Submercer and famous home of runway shows, exhibitions and fashion shows Milk Studios.

G-STAR NEW YORK FASHION
Normally, the new face of a brand is a pretty predictable and boring choice that only really registers if you think whoever it is, is hot. G-Star, though, likes to do the unexpected. Their choice last year of world number one chess player, 19-year-old Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, to front the G-Star RAW men’s campaign proves that.

Their selection for G-Star RAW’s A/W 2011 womenswear campaign, 24-year-old British actress Gemma Arterton, is maybe a bit less controversial, but the company’s reasoning is just as insightful. Gemma is, on the surface, a super-glamorous actress who often plays 'posh', yet in reality she was brought up by her single parent mum, a cleaner. This contradiction makes sense when you consider that G-Star RAW's campaign theme is RAW Elegance.

Iconic rock photographer and video director Anton Corbijn—who directed Joy Division biopic Control—shot the Arterton campaign. G-Star has also made a series of films to mark the launch of the campaign and Arterton’s leading role. This second film in the series, G-Star RAW New York Fashion Week, was shot at G-Star’s NY RAW A/W 2011 show at New York Fashion Week. The film features the runway show and includes backstage interviews with Gemma Arterton, Rosario Dawson, and Jared Leto, and footage of G-Star’ RAW's high-end 3D denim collection with people like Gemma Arterton, Magnus Carlsen, Rosario Dawson, Chris Hemsworth, Elsa Pataky, Jared Leto, Mena Suvari, Yaya DaCosta, Danny Flaherty, Kiko Mizuhara and Sofia Black D’Elia on the front row.

RAW NIGHTS
RAW Nights are a series of multi-entertainment platform events designed to bring G-Star in collaboration with other artists, designers, filmmakers, photographers and musicians just as dedicated to craft and quality as G-Star are.

Last month it was London's turn to host a G-Star RAW Night, which also saw the launch of Gemma Arterton as the new face of G-Star. The RAW Night, held at One Mayfair in a converted church, featured a gallery of never-before-seen photography by Anton Corbijn, who's directed videos for the likes of Danzig, Depeche Mode, Front 242 and U2, and shot every G-Star campaign so far. Other collaborators at London's RAW Night included graffiti artist Finn DAC (Beautiful Crime) and Romy of the XX. We went along to the night and met with Gemma to talk about how she became involved with G-Star and who her fashion icons are.

RAW Nights bring G-Star’s core DNA to life, presenting cutting-edge talents from across the creative world in intimate and surprising locations. In this way, audiences directly experience the concept of ‘unexpected combinations’ that underpins G-Star’s clothing collections, as well as forming the foundation for its various, global entertainment platforms, including 3301 RAW Records, RAW Rhythm Festival and RAW Gallery.
