Cum Des Garçons

We all have idols that give us hope that we don't actually have to turn into our parents. But it's not every day we get to meet them and get style tips from them. This is exactly what happened to me last week, when mine—64-year-old cult filmmaker and writer, John Waters, the man William Burroughs crowned "The Pope of Trash"—was in town promoting his new book, Role Models
Waters says the book is an homage to the characters whom he credits with making him, well, him. This includes both real and fictional choices such as the Rhoda Penmark character from the 1954 horror movie Bad Seed, and Peter Pan's foe Captain Hook. Apparently, dealing with reality is hard when most of your idols aren't real and those that are, are people such as fashion designer Rei Kawakubo.

I've met John Waters (he lives in my city) and even took a photo with him right before my husband told him about his dream breaking into his house and playing monopoly with him. That really got him freaked out. Didn't think anyone could freak John Waters out. Haha. GREAT interview! I might have to repost this and link you back! Thanks for this!
